When Things Work Out Right

Today´s blog post comes to us from Sara Nieto of our GLOBALHealthPR Spain partner, Berbés Asociados.
A client calls his communications partner regarding a new strategic direction that executives have just agreed to take. In the client’s mind, he already has plenty of activities he wants to convey. He provides his press office with new information, data and results to carry out his plan. This new announcement also has significant social importance, so it will interest the general public and is therefore newsworthy. This process is all part of the day-to-day of communications firms. However, despite a lot of hard work and enthusiasm, we sometimes don’t obtain the desired impact.
It’s almost funny to think about. Not only do we need an interesting subject and good spokespeople, but also planets to be aligned to achieve the success we expect and deserve. We Account Executives look at the weather, praying it won’t rain, because the traffic in a city like Madrid makes almost everything difficult. We hope our press conference doesn’t coincide with any other event and that the journalists won’t be up to their ears putting their editions or specials–which you’re sure are not as interesting as what your client is about to tell them–to bed. It can happen to all of us involved in this line of work.
In spite of this, it’s all worth the effort because of the rewarding feeling we get when things work out right. At Berbés Asociados, we are gratified because the most recent events have brought new, successful cases: a meeting of over 700 paediatricians in the Spanish Association for Primary Care Paediatrics (AEPap) and the presentation of the conclusions of the Alsalma 2.0 study carried out by Danone Nutricia as part of its “Feeding Tomorrow’s Health” educational programme. Both are of great interest to the public and each presentation drew over 30 media outlets, including TV stations and national newspapers.
We have achieved the objective of our clients: dissemination, social awareness and client satisfaction. This is a success, and helps to explain what motivates us and why we love our jobs, despite the instability currently affecting the communications sector here in Spain.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of building this success!
